Kanakadasa Jayanthi is a festival cerebrated by people of
Karnataka in general and Kuruba Gowda community in particular. It is celebrated
every year on the birth anniversary of the great poet and saint shri Kanaka
Dasa. In tribute to the great saint, the government of Karnataka has declared
November 20 as a state holiday. All the government offices, schools and
colleges around the state celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Kanaka Dasa
as a tribute to one of the great social reformers of Karnataka. The 519th
anniversary was celebrated in 2013.
Kanakadasa jayanthi holiday
Celebrating the birth of the 15th century social reformer
and poet, the State has declared a holiday on November 5 in view of ‘Kanakadasa
Jayanthi’.
The announcement of celebrating Kanakadasa’s birthday was
made in October, 2008. Following the announcement and subsequent orders issued,
a government holiday has been declared at schools, colleges and government
offices.

Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education, said, “Holiday in view of Kanakadas
Jayanthi was declared last year and it has been declared in the annual calendar
of events for schools.”
