BANGALORE: The number of medical seats up for grabs through
CET counselling is only 1,803 seats in 31 colleges. This is a drastic drop from
2,555 seats in 42 colleges last year. TOI had earlier reported that the number
of seats would decline as many of the colleges had not got permission from the
Medical Council of India to either increase their intake or continue with the
next batch.
Over 1.5 lakh students had appeared in the common entrance
test that holds key to the professional courses in the state.
"We are yet to get seat matrix figures for 11 medical
colleges. They will be uploaded as and when we get it," said Rame Gowda,
executive director of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). As for dental
seats, they have come down to 649 seats from 788 seats last year. This is
because the number of colleges has come down to 29 from 38.
