Dr. B. Jayashree, started her acting career in her grandfather, the legendary Gubbi Veeranna’s theatrical company, and went on to graduate from the National School of Drama in 1973. She has acted under many distinguished Directors, has performed in innumerable place and has travelled extensively in India and abroad. She has worked on projects with theatre workshops, Edinburgh, to commemorate 50 years of India’s Independence and has been the choreographer for the Festival of India in Sweden. She has directed many folk ensembles across the country.

B. Jayashree is a recipient of several prestigious awards including the Safdar Hashmi Award, Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Sandesh Award, B.V. Karanth Smriti Puraskaar and the Rajyotsava Award. She has been conferred honorary Doctorate for her achievements in the field of culture by the Mysore Open University. In recognition of her contribution to Art and Culture, the Government of India has nominated her as the Member of Parliament, Rajyasabha in 2010. She has been the symbol of evolution of Theatre in Karnataka. As a Creative Director of Internationally acclaimed Kannada Theatre Group ‘Spandana’, she has given it a unique reputation of being the most innovative theatre group.
