Maha Shivaratri falls on Magha Bahula Chaturdasi of Telugu Calendar or Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi of
Masi month of the Tamil Calendar. It is the fourteenth day of the wanning moon phase of Magha month of Telugu Calendar or Masi month of Tamil calendar. Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated on Thursday, 27th February, 2014.

The following rituals are to be followed on Shivaratri
1)Fasting the whole day. Even Water must not be taken.
2)Perform Eka Rudra Abhishekam in the night after sunset. Bilva Dala or Bel leaves must be offered to the Lord.
3)Fruits are to be offered to Lord Shiva. These fruits should only be eaten for the night.
4)Jagaran or keeping awake the whole night is a must.
5)Performing Abhishekam to Lord Shiva at Lingodbhava Kalam will fetch lot of Punya.
6)Enchant the name of Lord Shiva or Maha Mruthyunjaya Mantra the whole night.
7)Sleep only on the night of the next day.
