‘Politicians forgetting Vishwa Manava concept'

Kuvempu remembered on his 107th birth anniversary
Various organisations, here on Wednesday, celebrated the 107th birth anniversary of Jnanpith Award recipient poet laureate K.V. Puttappa — popularly known as Kuvempu — by way of cultural programmes and seminars.

Minister for Medical Education S.A. Ramdas, who is also the district in-charge, garlanded the statue of Kuvempu at Vishwamanava Park near Gun House on Monday(Dec 30,2010).

Office-bearers of the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) paid floral tributes to the poet.

Kavita Kamakshi and troupe sung poems of Kuvempu in the Geeta Gayana programme organised on the occasion. Vice-Chancellor of Gangubai Hangal University of Music and Performing Arts Hanumanna Nayak Dorai inaugurated the programme by playing the tabla and singing some of Kuvempu's poems.

Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Prathisthana of Kuppalli, in association with the Department of Kannada Studies and Research of Karnataka State Open University, conducted a national seminar on the works of the poet.

Noted writers, critics and poets presented papers. Kannada writer S.S. Marulaiah presided over the valedictory function of the seminar.

Another State-level seminar was organised by Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies in Manasagangothri, which was inaugurated by litterateur C.P. Krishna Kumar. Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore V.G. Talwar and various critics and writers spoke on the works of Kuvempu and his idea of Vishwamanava.

Writer and Kuvempu's student Prabhu Shankar was felicitated at a function held at the Jaganmohan Palace auditorium by Vishwamanava Vidyarthi Yuva Vedike.
